#NEXT4EU TV Debate: Vulnerabilities, fears and solutions on the road to European integration

Institut für Europäische Politik from Berlin (IEP), in cooperation with Institute for Strategic Initiatives (IPIS) and Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE) organized a TV debate on RealitateaTV within the project “#NEXT4EU – Young generation for EU integration of the Republic of Moldova”.

The participants in the debate, which was moderated by Ileana Pîrgaru, talked about vulnerabilities, fears and solutions in the course of Moldova’s European integration.

Inna Șupac: Moldova’s National Security Strategy and societal cohesion

Our colleague Inna Șupac contributed to the KonKoop In: Security Report edited by the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS) from Berlin. When evaluating the security of countries in Russia’s neighbourhood, policymakers and scholars primarily look at top-down state actions. A new report focuses on security ‘from below’ and finds that societal cohesion is crucial for security in the region.

Institute for Strategic Initiatives (IPIS) announces competition for the selection of two local experts within the framework of the project «Support for the Reform Office». IPIS is seeking a Legal/Policy Expert and Overall Coordinator and an expert in education with a background in ICT.

(Română) Campania „Familia mea. Familia europeană” reamintește despre realitatea cruntă din trecutul nu tocmai îndepărtat al Republica Moldova, dar și despre avantajele integrării europene. Campania, care se va desfășura pe parcursul următoarelor două luni, este implementată la inițiativa Institutului pentru Politici și Reforme Europene (IPRE), Institutului pentru Inițiative Strategice (IPIS) și Europe Café, cu finanțarea Uniunii Europene (UE). Obiectivul campaniei este de a prezenta cetățenilor Republicii Moldova avantajele integrării europene și de a crea reziliență la campaniile de dezinformare în adresa Uniunii Europene, dar și a valorilor democrației în general.

More than 2 million Moldovan citizens travelled visa-free to the European Union

On 28 April, the Republic of Moldova marks ten years since the liberalisation of the visa regime with the European Union. During these 10 years, 2,156,882 citizens of the Republic of Moldova have travelled without a visa, using biometric passports, to the Schengen area, making 31,248,082 trips, i.e. an average of more than 15 trips per person over 10 years. At the same time, Moldovans financially avoided expenses of at least 270 million euro, which they would have had to pay for visa procedures.

#NEXT4EU Policy dialogue: Moldova’s EU accession negotiation process – between efficiency and democratic accountability

The fifth NEXT4EU policy dialogue on April 12, 2024, was dedicated to two crucial issues for the future EU integration of Moldova. Firstly, the collaboration between civil society organisations and the government. Secondly, the plans to hold a constitutional referendum on EU integration on the same day as the presidential elections in October of this year.

Moldova Country Report. A Society Under Pressure: Internal Vulnerabilities and Multiple External Risks

Our colleague Inna Șupac is one of over 30 researchers who has been invited to contribute to the annual publication of the Centre for Baltic and East European Studies located at Södertörn University in Sweden.

Inna provides an overview of the diversity of challenges in the Republic of Moldova, both on a macro level and a grassroots level, and gives a preliminary analysis of the implications for the country’s future.

Study: The human resource crisis and the salary sistem within central and local authorities

The human resource crisis in public institutions is an acute problem. First of all, this crisis is manifested in the large number of vacant positions. Recruitment and retention of qualified staff is a problem that will also affect the speed of EU accession negotiations.
